There is never a shortage of choices for outdoor activities in Mobile. The city is home to the largest river delta and wetland in Alabama and one of the largest in the country. The eco-diversity of the beaches, bays, and bayous are unlike many places in the world. With so many opportunities for adventure, there is always a chance to visit the natural beauty Mobile has to offer.

The 5 Rivers Delta Resources Center or the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Estauarium are great places to enjoy and explore nature in Mobile. Gulf and Meaher state parks play host to a variety of trails to roam. There are various fishing and airboat tours, plus kayaks and canoes to use in order to venture through the wilderness.

“The city of Mobile sits in the middle of the biologically richest part of North America.” – E.O. Wilson (American Bioligist)

One-hundred acres including longleaf restoration of 35-acres. There are herb and Japanese maple gardens, hiking trails and a longleaf bike trail, plus one of the most diverse collections of camellias and azaleas in the United States. Open year-round.

Mobile’s reputation as an “azalea mecca” comes from Bellingrath Gardens and Home.

The beautiful blooms are enjoyed there every spring. The cascading mums outdoors are the largest in the United States and are also a stunning display to witness. Each November, the 65-acre public garden at the Bellingrath Museum Home is filled with a blanket of color. The horticultural staff works hard so that flowers flow from every window, handrail, bridge, nook, and cranny. The sight is unparalleled across the country and never one to miss.

One of the largest intact wetland ecosystems in America is the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. There is an abundance of flora and fauna that can be found in the array of rivers, bayous, creeks, streams, lakes, and wetlands. The hardwood forest is dominated by oaks and full of Spanish Moss. Mixed with pines and undergrowth of shrubs, herbs, and flowers are 126 species of fish, 40 species of mammals, 69 species of reptiles, 30 species of amphibians, 500 species of plants, and more than 300 species of birds.
