  • Mobile Container Terminal, modern container handling facility with a 45-foot draft dock, warehousing and storage facilities and two “Post-Panamax” cranes, and two “Super Post-Panamax” cranes
  • Turning basin at the Port of Mobile, meant to serve post-Panamax size ships
  • Terminal and other facilities, runway, roads, and service amenity expansions at the Mobile Regional Airport, including the addition of a parallel runway

Highway Transportation

Companies have highway transportation access to major markets across the country from Mobile. Converging in the city are two major interstate highways. The first is I-10 which extends east to Jacksonville, FL, and west to Los Angeles, CA. The other is I-65 which extends from Mobile north to Chicago, IL. The major metro areas that can be reached within 600 miles are Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Memphis, Nashville, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Orlando. 

Over 65 certified motor freight carriers are able to transport interstate shipments to ad/or from the Mobile area. Many carriers offer container services and the majority have area terminals.

Railway Access

There are six railroads that serve the Mobile area. Five of them are Class-I railroads. They , converge at the Port of Mobile and include intermodal services for companies importing and/or exporting.

The following serve major industrial Alabama State Port Authority: Burlington Northern, Norfolk Southern and short line Alabama and Gulf Railroad.

Theodore Industrial Park and the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley is served by CSX.

The western areas of Mobile and Prichard as the tracks head east toward downtown Mobile are served by Canadian National Railroad.

Central Gulf Railroad provides service to southern Mexico and Mexico City.

The only Class 1 railroad to own track both inside and outside Mexico’s boundaries is Kansas City Southern.
